Partners In Forest Management

These projects are possible because of Colorado Lottery and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) funding for inventory, planning and providing matching funds.  Project implementation is also funded through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  State Parks has spent more than $300,000 through funds from GOCO on the projects and are planning projects at 11 State Parks.  Colorado State Forest Service's "Front Range Fuels Treatment Partnership" has matched nearly $300,000 for a total of almost $600,000.

This partnership has been very successful and due to its demonstated track record of careful planning and efficient implementation CSFS has recieved a $2.5 million dollar grant from FEMA that is the first of its kind for pro-active watershed protection.  This grant will fund fuels mitigation projects at 7 parks through 2010!

Individuals can help reduce wildfire risk by participating in fuel mitigation on their property.  The effectiveness of the park projects increases when neighbors participate in fuel mitigation.  Information and assistance for private property owners is available through the Colorado State Forest Service at 970-491-6303.
