Wagon Wheel will be the main campground and Foster Grove as a first come/first served overflow campground when Wagon Wheel fills. There are 129 campsites. Sites within each campground can accommodate tents, motor homes, pick-up campers or trailers. Campers are limited to one camping unit with one tent or two tents and a maximum of six people per campsite. Fishing - 10/28/2006
Bonny Lake is considered one of the state’s finest warm-water fisheries. Anglers flock to the reservoir to catch walleye, northern pike, freshwater drum, white bass, wiper, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish. Recently tiger muskie has joined the group. The reservoir is open year-round. During the winter can also be an enjoyable time for those who like to ice fish, if conditions allow. The best time for fishing is in the early spring and fall. Fishing is also available in the winter, visit the "Fishing" link on Bonny Lake's home page for additional information.
Group Camping - 10/28/2006
Group Camping is available. Visit Bonny Lake State Park's Camping page for additional information.
Hiking - 10/28/2006
The Bonny Prairie Natural Area has a short, self-guided trail about a quarter-mile long. The trail is located near the North Cove Campground. See the Trails section. Although not a designated trail for hiking or biking, there are gravel county roads (with light vehicle traffic) that circle around and through the park creating an excellent 17-mile bicycling loop.
Horseback Riding - 1/25/2010
Horseback riding is allowed at Bonny Lake State Park, but there are no horse rentals. A 9 mile long looped trail has been created in between Foster Grove and North Cove campground. A shorter 5 mile long trail is in the same area. A short 2 mile long trail is located on the south side of the park. Call the park office at (970)354-7306 for more information. Horses are generally allowed to ride anywhere in the park, but should stay away from the shoreline as the mud can be soft in many areas.
Hunting - 11/10/2009
Hunters, you can enjoy all kinds of outdoor sports at Bonny. We offer a wide variety of small game as well as big game animals. Visit the "Hunting" link on Bonny Lake's home page for additional information.
Ice Fishing - 10/28/2006
Ice fishing is a popular sport at Bonny with all species of fish being caught. As with any winter sport, ice safety is very important. Always check the conditions of the ice, so you have a safe day of fishing on the ice.
Ice Skating - 10/28/2006
The joy of ice-skating can be fully enjoyed as a family outing at Bonny. It is easily accessible at the jetty. To get the ice conditions on Bonny, one can call our park office at (970) 354-7306 or check our park conditions page for recent updates. Before going out onto a frozen lake, pond or river, it is important to take safety precautions to reduce the risk of falling through the ice. Knowing how to judge ice conditions will also help you make more informed decisions while enjoying winter activities.
Jet Skiing - 6/13/2008
Please review personal watercraft laws, including requirement that drivers must be at least 16. Youth who are 14 or 15 may obtain permits by completing a safety course. For details, review the boating information from Colorado State Parks.
OHV Riding - 8/30/2009
North Cove campground is the trailhead for a new OHV riding area. 3 and 4 wheeler and motorcycles are allowed to operate off-roads in the dry lake bed near the North Cove campground. A large (150 acre) area has been mowed out and has a couple of potential jumps in the area. A one to two mile enduro style trail skirts the outside of the OHV area. Call park office for more details. Area is open from April 1 to Sept 30.
Picnicking - 12/4/2009
Bonny Lake has numerous picnic sites located around the reservoir. Most sites are located around the tree-rimmed south shore, near the swim and ski beaches. Located on the south of the reservoir at the Center Beach picnic area, two fully accessible picnic areas are available for visitors with disabilities. Visit the "Picnicking" link on Bonny Lake's home page for additional information.
