New East Park Entrance Road

An oasis in the desert, Highline Lake is the recreation epicenter for the Grand Valley with two lakes, lush grass, trails and trees.

No matter the season, Highline Lake State Park is a diverse and welcome retreat. Connected to miles of trails and close to communities, the park makes an ideal base camp for exploring the Grand Junction area.  Whether passing through on mountain bikes, or as an end destination, the park welcomes campers, anglers, families and groups.

Two lakes: two worlds. Highline Lake caters to action like jet and water-skiing, while Mack Mesa Lake is quieter, allowing only wakeless boating. Fishing is available on both lakes.

Birders have plenty to see here. The Audubon Society designated the park an important bird area; thousands migrate through the area every winter.
Park Information

The new east Park entrance is open!
Choose this link for a map of the area.

To enter the park now, instead of turning left at the end of 11.8 Road, just keep going straight. The Visitor Center window is on the left, and the automated dispenser is on the right. The Visitor Center is not open yet, but should be in the next month. The east park exit is where the entrance/exit road and gate building used to be.

Please pay for required passes at the automated dispenser, which is to the right of the Visitor Center, near a sign noting 2010 fees. The machine accepts cash and Visa/MasterCard, and dispenses daily, regular Annual and non-Aspen camping passes. All other passes and registrations may be purchased with cash or check from a park ranger, or at the office Monday-Friday 8 am - 4:30pm.

Daily and regular Annual passes may be purchased from the automated dispenser at the park West entrance, using a MasterCard/Visa or cash.

Why Visit Now

Highline Lake is still white with snow!
The lakes are still frozen over, although there may be some slush on top, and the views are simply gorgeous. The roads are still plowed, so plan a winter daytime outing at Highline Lake! Grab your winter gear and bundle up; it's still cold outside!

Do you know the "Prairie Dog" saw his/her shadow on February 2nd? There may be six more weeks of winter! Enjoy the last of winter spotting bald and golden eagles, assorted hawks, a herd of mule deer and a coyote or two, if you are very still and quiet. Go outside and back to nature at Highline Lake.

Mack Mesa and Highline Lakes are still iced over; however, there may be slush on top of the ice! Please use caution when going onto the ice; conditions can change quickly. There are also many old ice holes that may not be obvious! For ice safety tips, please choose this link.

This is a view of our new east park entrance and visitor center.  We still haven't moved into the Visitor Center, so continue to come to the old park office for now.  See a map of the new entrance by choosing this link!
