James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park
Colorado River Island Acres Section

The Colorado River State Park was renamed James M. Robb – Colorado River State Park in 2005 to honor a visionary.  Mr. Robb was instrumental in creating this “string of pearls,” or five distinct sections, that are this park.

From Fruita on the west end, to Island Acres on the east end and three stops in-between, this is one park split into five sections. To visit the park, follow the Colorado River west from Debeque Canyon to Fruita, and enjoy five uniquely different river and lake based outdoor recreation opportunities.

The sections, or “pearls” listed from east to west, each offer something different:
  1. Island Acres Section
  2. Corn Lake Section
  3. Colorado River Wildlife Area Section
  4. Connected Lakes Section
  5. Fruita Section
Attention: The swim beach at the Fruita Section will be closed indefinitely. The Island Acres Section offers great swimming opportunities and plenty of shade under the cottonwoods.

View the James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park brochure for a map of section locations.
Who was James M. Robb?
Local Attractions

James M. Robb was a civic leader, former parks board member and chair, elected representative and champion of state parks.  Robb helped create the Colorado Riverfront Foundation, referring to this Grand Junction-area park as a “string of pearls.” Colorado State Parks and the communities involved are working together to build a future 35-mile river corridor trail system to connect this “string of pearls.”

These park sections make great stopping points while exploring the many attractions of the Grand Junction area. Visit our Local Attractions page for links to local chambers of commerce, tourism associations, museums, and nearby recreation areas.
