Camping Update
Many sites remain in the Point Campground for Labor Day Weekend. This is the basic campground. No water, shade, or electricity is available at the Point, but the views of the reservoir are spectacular from the vantage of the north shore.

There are 213 campsites in two separate campgrounds in the park. Group camping is available at the Caddoa Shelter. Check the park overview map to locate the campgrounds.

Lake Hasty Campground
The Lake Hasty Campground is open year round with electrical hookups (20, 30 and 50 amp) at each of the 109 sites.  In winter, 54 sites remain open. Potable water is available in various locations throughout the campground, including during the winter. All sites are at least 60 feet long accommodating any size RV, motor home, trailer, camper or tent. This campground is located below the dam. View the Lake Hasty Campground Map

The Lake Hasty Campground offers:Lake Hasty Campground

            • Electrical hookups at each site
            • A camper services building with flush restrooms, a laundry room,and coin-operated shower facilities (open year round)
            • Fish-cleaning station open during spring and summer
            • North comfort station open during spring and summer
            • Centralized water hydrants (water remains on year round)
            • Trees and a playground
            • Dump station, which remains open year round, although the flush stands are closed during the winter

Favorite sites are 31-38, which require reservations most summer weekends. 

Point Campground
The Point Campground on the north shore of the main reservoir offers basic camping with a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding high-desert prairie. No water, electricity, or shade is available at the Point. View the Point Campground Map.

  • A picnic table
  • A fire grill
  • A high-use tent pad
  • Vault toilets in several locations throughout campground

The Point Campground is open from mid-April to October 31.

Winter Camping
Come roost with the eagles at John Martin Reservoir State Park. The Lake Hasty Campground at John Martin is a favorite winter roosting spot for majestic bald eagles. They can be seen soaring above the reservoir and sitting on the ice, along with geese, ducks, and gulls, fishing for their dinner.

Spend your day hiking and watching our diverse wildlife including birds, deer, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, and more. At night, John Martin offers unsurpassed star-gazing opportunities in our quiet, uncrowded location. Meteor showers are especially spectacular! After playing hard all day, rest easy in the Lake Hasty Campground. Enjoy hot showers, laundry facilities, and electrical hookups.
