Backcountry camping - 5/3/2012
Camping is currently limited to Friday and Saturday nights ONLY. We have six backcountry campsites in the park. There is a minimum two mile one-way hike from the trailhead to the campsites. Campsites contain no facilities and there is noreliable water source at the sites. NO FIRES ALLOWED! Purchase permits at the visitor center or self-service station.
Biking - 5/3/2012
All trails are currently open. Horsetooth Mountain Open Space Trails can be accessed through the Lory Trail System. For more information, visit the "Trails" link on the left side of Lory's main page.
Boating - 5/3/2012
Horsetooth Reservoir borders Lory to the east and is operated by the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. Canoeists, kayakers, and rafters can hand-launch their crafts within a short walk from the North Eltuck Bay parking lot. The boat ramp nearest to Lory is located at Horsetooth Dam- Satanka Cove, about two miles away. Another option for power boaters is Boyd Lake State Park in the Loveland area, a short drive from Lory. Boat registration services are available at the Lory State Park Visitor Center during business hours. Call 970-493-1623 for hours.
Camping - 5/3/2012
Only backcountry camping is permitted at Lory State Park. There are no facilities for car or RV camping available. Primitive sites can be accessed by a minimum two-mile, one-way hike. The backcountry sites are a good training ground for Scouts and other groups who want to train for longer backpacking and camping trips. There is no water, restrooms, or tent pads at these sites and fires are prohibited. Call the park at 970-493-1623 for backcountry camping information. Campers are required to purchase a backcountry camp permit for $10.00 per night in addition to the park entrance fee. Due to hunting season backcountry camping is only permitted Friday and Saturday nights until May 23, 2012. Seven day a week camping will be available after May 23, 2012 until September 4, 2012 when big game hunting starts again. Camping is on a first come basic with no reservations taken.

Fishing - 5/3/2012
Horsetooth reservoir borders Lory State Park to the east and is operated by the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. On the west side of the reservoir, accessible by foot only, there are six coves that offer bass, trout, and walleye fishing. All Colorado Division of Wildlife fishing regulations apply. Boaters can park in the North Eltuck Bay parking lot and hand-launch their boats. Boat registration services are available at the Lory State Park Visitor Center during business hours. Geocaching - 5/3/2012
Lory has one geocache located @ N 40 34.067 W 105 11.252. The park permits citizens to place geocaches in the park after completing an application process. Please contact the park if you are interested in placing a cache. Any unregistered cache will be removed.
Group Picnicking - 5/3/2012
Lory has three group picnic areas which are available by reservation. For more information, visit the "Group Picnic Areas" link on the left side of Lory's main page. Non-group small picnic areas are available on a first come first serve basis.
Hiking - 5/3/2012
The variety of Lory’s trails makes the park suitable for hiking, horseback riding, walking and jogging. Safe drinking water and restroom facilities are not available on the trails. An adequate water supply should be carried and may be obtained at the visitor center. For more information, visit the "Trails" link on the left side of Lory's main page.
Horseback Riding - 5/3/2012
Trails are open to horses. Trails that typically allow for riding include East, West, and South Valley Trails, Shoreline, Timber, Howard, Kimmons, and the Mill Creek Link Trail. The South Valley trail and Mill Creek Link connect to the trail system in Horsetooth Open Space. For more information, visit the "Trails" link on the left side of Lory's main page.
Hunting - 5/3/2012
The park is open to hunting during state hunting times. Hunters are required to register at the Visitor Center and all harvests must be reported. Please call the park for more information including information on areas prohibited to hunting.
Picnicking - 5/3/2012
There are many scenic picnic areas at Lory State Park. The Homestead Picnic Area is a spacious picnic area with views of the reservoir and plenty of shade. Picnic tables are also available at South Eltuck and Arthur's Rock trailhead.
Rock Climbing - 5/3/2012
Lory State Park allows rock climbing. All hardware and/or permanent fixtures must be removed after each visit. Stop by the Visitor Center for a Lory State Park bouldering guide and more information. Northern Colorado Climbers Coalition put together a very nice guide for the Park in cooperation with the Park. Visit their website at www.nococlimbing.org.
Volleyball - 5/3/2012
A sand volleyball court is located at the Timber Group Picnic Area. This is available for public use when the picnic area is not reserved.
Water Skiing - 5/3/2012
Water-skiing is permited in Horsetooth Reservoir, which borders Lory to the east and is operated by the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources.
Winter Activities - 5/3/2012
Scenic Lory State Park offers winter hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, picnicking, wildlife viewing, running, horseback riding and hunting opportunities for cold weather enthusiasts. Trails are open year-round. Call the park at 970-493-1623 for current conditions.
Winter Camping - 5/3/2012
Winter camping is available on non-hunting Friday and Saturday nights.
