In the spring, summer and fall, canoeists, kayakers and wakeless power boaters enjoy the calm waters of Jackson Gulch Reservoir. Fishing enthusiasts have pulled numerous species of fish, including yellow perch and rainbow trout, out of the reservoir. Travelers from other parts of the state and country use Mancos State Park as their camping headquarters when they visit the numerous attractions in the area, including Mesa Verde National Park, the San Juan Skyway and Durango. In the winter, hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails await in the San Juan National Forest. The West Mancos Trailhead is just two miles from Mancos State Park. Ice fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also popular at Mancos in the winter.
Mancos State Park’s two yurts provide visitors with an alternative to RV and tent camping. You can reserve a yurt year-round. Yurts are reminiscent of tents used by nomads on the steppes of Mongolia and Siberia. The yurt is round tent on a wooden frame with circular skylights and windows to provide light. The yurt’s insulated walls and propane heater/gas-log fireplace keep it warm the winter.

Mancos State Park has winter camping. Sites in the main campground are open and plowed. No RV electrical, water or sewer hookups are available, but drinking water is available at hydrants year-round, and the dump station remains open. Winter RV and Yurt camping at Mancos is popular with snowmobilers who visit the nearby San Juan National Forest.
