Roxborough State Park
More than a million Denver-area residents have one of nature’s jewels in their backyard: Roxborough State Park, a short drive southwest of Denver.

Roxborough is a Colorado Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark for good reason. The 3,339-acre park is filled with dramatic red-rock formations, distinct plant communities, and a host of wildlife ranging from black bears to mule deer.

Visitors can take in all of Roxborough’s geological wonders via a series of trails for every level of hiker. The Fountain Valley Overlook is only 100 yards from the Visitor Center and provides spectacular views of several beautiful rock formations, including the Fountain Formation, Lyons Formation, and the Dakota Hogback.  Many visitors tote their cameras to capture one of the many beautiful views or animal sightings such as red fox from one of the park’s overlooks.

Preserve Roxborough's Nature

No DogsTo preserve Roxborough's natural state, no camping, mountain bikes, pets, or horses are permitted in Roxborough State Park. View other camping options in this area.

Additional Fire Mitigation

On October 26 we will move into the next phase of the mitigation project planned for 20 acres at the DCR5 Evacuation Route. Gambel Oak will be significantly reduced within 25 feet of the road through a mix of mechanical methods and hand cutting. Please check with the staff on trail closures at our temporarily trailer near the upper parking lot or call 303.973.3959 for updates.

Visitor Center Renovation Complete!

The Visitor Center is now open! Come on in and see the new renovations, shop for your favorite nature books, and watch the new DVD introducing the park. We'll help you pick the best trail for you, your friends, and your family. The restrooms are open.

Be sure to call us at 303.973.3959 before you head out to get the latest road and trail conditions.
