Backcountry camping
-
2/27/2010
While there is no camping at Roxborough State Park, there are several options for camping in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas.
Biking
-
2/27/2010
We do not allow bikes on Roxborough's trails. Hiking is king at Roxborough. More than 14 miles of trails take hikers to some incredible views of giant hogbacks and red-rock formations, red sandstone ridges and spires. The trails range from an easy half-mile meander on the Fountain Overlook Trail starting from the Visitor Center, to a challenging 6.4-mile trek up 7,160-foot Carpenter Peak, where you can see the surrounding countryside for miles and catch a glimpse of downtown Denver. See the Trails section for complete trail descriptions.
Birding

Sledding allowed on the trails only. Call us at 303 973.3959 for updated snow and trail conditions.

Wildlife Viewing
-
2/27/2010
We have many opportunities for wildlife viewing. We have an abundance of birds, fox, and mule deer. There are occasional sightings of bobcat, mountain lion, and black bear. There are always signs of their presence on the trail.
Winter Activities
-
2/27/2010
The scenery is quite dramatic when snow covers Roxborough’s ridges and spires. The myriad of animal tracks in the snow tell the stories of wildlife's winter activities. Novice and advanced cross-country skiers and snowshoers enjoy recreating on the gentle trails. The next time there is a measurable snowfall in the Denver area, head to Roxborough, but don’t wait too long after the snowfall. Because many of the trails are exposed, Roxborough veterans say the snow melts quickly—often, within one or two days of the snowfall. Going off the trails and snowmobiling are not permitted in the park.
