Trinidad Lake overlook in winter

The mild climate and large lake are ideal for water sports. Anglers catch rainbow and brown trout, largemouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, crappie and bluegill. All types of boaters appreciate the open waters and modern services.

Miles of trails winding through ancient and interesting local history, and spectacular scenery provide visitors and nature enthusiasts with great outdoor exploration opportunities.

Trinidad Lake is a wonderful place to escape the crowds and establish a basecamp from which to explore the great outdoors plus visit interesting local attractions.  Area attractions like the former mining town of Trinidad with its colorful history make great side trips.

Important Notice

Due to freeway construction in Trinidad, visitors coming from the north will need to use an alternate route to get to the park.  Southbound I-25 travelers should take exit 14 and at the stoplight, continue straight ahead (west) up Colorado Ave. Turn left on San Juan and continue down the hill until you come to a stop sign on Highway 12. Merge on to Hwy 12 and travel west for three miles.

Planning a Group Event?

Now is the time to be thinking about reserving a group facility at Trinidad Lake for that special event you're planning.

Beginning January 1, you can book a group picnic shelter or the Piedmont group camp area for any available date in 2010.

The Piedmont has three RV sites with 50-amp service plus space for additional rigs as well as 10 tent-pad sites. It's perfect for an RV club outing, company retreat or family reunion. Each group facility has water, electricity, nearby restroom facilities and seating for 60. Piedmont campers also have access to the brand new camper services building in the Carpios Ridge campground.
