Vega State Park
Snowy View at Vega

At an elevation of 8,000 feet, Vega State Park’s high-mountain lake sits in a beautiful montane meadow on the western edge of Grand Mesa National Forest in Western Colorado.
Vega is great year round for birding, hiking among the changing aspen, ice fishing and cross-country skiing. Snowmobilers  and off-highway vehicle riders can access hundreds of miles of trails in Grand Mesa National Forest from Vega Early Settlers campground, cabins or OHV lot.

The park’s 109 campsites in four campgrounds surround the lake. The campsites range from pull-through sites with electric hookups to 10 walk-in tent sites in the Pioneer Campground. All the sites have fire pits, picnic tables and pleasant views. Vega’s five cozy cabins are available year round and accommodate up to six people.  Escape the crowds and come to Vega mid-week.

Summer reservations for the Meadows Group Picnic Area are picking up, so call today to reserve this beautiful location for a wedding, family reunion, company picnic, memorial or other group events.

Shopping is always fun at Vega State Park and the funds support our educational programming! Find those unique gifts, books and comfortable clothing at the Rocky Mountain Nature Association (RMNA) store.  Please come out and enjoy our winter wonderland, bluebirds and other wildlife!

Check the Colorado State Parks calendar for additional State Park listings.

Ice Fishing Tournament

Vega is one of the few Colorado State Parks with OHV and snowmobile access to USFS Grand Mesa National Forest lands directly from the park.  Plan to purchase new or renew registrations for boats, snowmobiles and OHV at the Visitor Center. Campers in Early Settlers CG, Pioneer CG and Cabins can leave these sites and drive their OHV directly to the USFS Park Creek (#262) Road.  Corrals are available at Vega for $10 a night per horse and can be reserved by calling (970) 487-3407. For more information to trails on the USFS-Grand Mesa click here.

Ospreys Building a Nest at Vega!

After a pair of Ospreys
began to visit Vega in 2008,
Park staff installed two nesting platforms.  A pair of Ospreys are building their first nest for our Park just north of the South Road.

Celebrate Winter at Vega State Park!

You can ice fish, snowshoe, cross-country ski, snowmobile or simply enjoy the winter surroundings and capture some great photographs.  Ice fishing is great during the day; the evenings are very cold.

For current updates check the Park Conditions page, which is updated periodically.
