Roxborough State Park

More than a million Denver-area residents have one of nature’s jewels in their backyard: Roxborough State Park, a short drive southwest of Denver.
Roxborough is a Colorado Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark for good reason. The park, with close to 4000-acres, is filled with dramatic red-rock formations, distinct plant communities, and a host of wildlife ranging from black bears to mule deer.

Visitors can take in all of Roxborough’s geological wonders via a series of trails for every level of hiker. The Fountain Valley Overlook is only 100 yards from the Visitor Center and provides spectacular views of several beautiful rock formations, including the Fountain Formation, Lyons Formation, and the Dakota Hogback.  Many visitors tote their cameras to capture one of the many beautiful views or animal sightings such as red fox from one of the park’s overlooks.

Overlook Rental

We are excited to announce that Roxborough is now renting out the two overlooks for weddings and other special events. The Fountain Valley Overlook is a very short walk from the Visitor Center and allows for a beautiful back drop of the geologic formations of the park. The Lyons Overlook is a half mile hike down the Fountain Valley Trail and puts you right in the middle of the Fountain Formation. It is truly beautiful! Call Todd Farrow at 303 973-3959 X11 for more information.

Denver Water's Strontia Springs Reservoir contains more than one million cubic yards of sediment — a result of forest fires and subsequent intense rains over the years. As a result, a Denver Water contractor will dredge the reservoir to remove at least 625,000 cubic yards of sediment — enough to fill the football field at Invesco to a height of more than 200 feet. To ensure the safety of those who recreate in the area, Waterton Canyon will remain closed to the public through February 2012. It reopens
March 1, 2012!
